Beyond being delicious, this recipe is balanced with protein, healthy fats, and a touch of natural sweetness. The mint yogurt dip adds a cooling, refreshing finish that adults will love too — making it a great family meal.
Whether you’re serving them warm for dinner or packing them for a picnic, these little patties are simple, wholesome, and full of goodness.
Ingredients
- 250g lean lamb mince
- 1 large sweet potato (approx. 200g), peeled and grated
- 1/2 small onion, very finely grated
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
- 100g plain whole-milk yogurt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Pinch of ground cumin (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the lamb mince, grated sweet potato, finely grated onion, and a pinch of cumin (if using). Use your hands to mix everything together thoroughly.
- Shape the mixture into 10–12 small, flat patties, about 4–5 cm in diameter — perfect for little hands.
- Heat the olive oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place the patties in the pan, ensuring not to overcrowd it. Cook for 4–5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and cooked through.
- While the patties are cooking, prepare the dip. In a small bowl, mix the plain yogurt with the chopped fresh mint.
- Once cooked, transfer the patties to a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb any excess oil. Let them cool down to a safe temperature before serving with the mint yogurt dip.
- For younger babies, the cooked patties can be mashed or puréed to a suitable consistency.
Tips & Substitutions
- Make ahead: The patties can be prepared in advance and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before cooking.
- Alternative protein: Substitute lamb with lean beef or turkey mince for a different flavor profile.
- Vegetable boost: Add finely grated carrot or zucchini for extra nutrients and moisture.
